Proof (Codhill Press) by Karina Borowicz PDF

By Karina Borowicz

Winner of the Codhill Poetry Award for 2013.

“I locate myself studying Karina Borowicz’s Proof methods: as a reader admiring her quiet, unusual authority and imaginative and prescient, and as a author asking: how does she do it? simply because those are poems I’d prefer to emulate: poems whose questions and sophisticated declarations knit jointly planets and the previous, the invisible and the visible, the dwelling and the lifeless. In ‘Frozen Boot,’ she writes: ‘I ran my hand alongside the frozen boot of the manufacturing facility employee / simply because how else do you seek advice from statues.’ I had no inspiration ahead of, now I do. There’s puzzlement in those poems, and loneliness and needles and wasps, and in ‘Planet Kepler 22B,’ there’s ‘the cave partitions at Lascaux, the place a herd / of pink horses nonetheless circles within the darkness.’ So we get the darkness of earth and the heavens, and in some way, Borowicz makes that mild our way.” — Andrea Cohen

“‘God made up our minds unexpectedly to develop teeth,’ writes Karina Borowicz in her spare new assortment that observes these cataclysms requiring a particularly lonely braveness to note. She witnesses them, from time to time with stunning tenderness, via a skinny filter out that permits in simple terms the correct photos via, and offers us with the guidance—not inevitably comforting—for beholding them. even if its locus is within the wild or the eerie domesticity of ‘neighborhood,’ each one deft poem offers aspect, besides the fact that most excellent, that spells hassle. however it is a bother by which Borowicz understands how one can trip, regardless of probability that's often heartbreaking. She doesn't disturb loads as an ant colony snoozing in wintry weather, yet indicates us the terrifying loveliness of our vulnerability.” — Frannie Lindsay

“The poems of Karina Borowicz are startlingly obvious and deliciously opaque unexpectedly. they're deeply rooted within the soil of the flora and fauna yet while they convey in detail with the typical objects—breakfast dishes, lipstick instances, socks, radio towers—that underpin and enhance our lives. In language elegantly austere and deeply resonant, Borowicz performs subtle and understated musical riffs in social gathering of what it truly is to be alive, delicate, and mortal.” — Sidney Wade

Karina Borowicz’s debut poetry quantity, The Bees Are Waiting, was once chosen through Franz Wright for the Marick Press Poetry Prize and was once named a Must-Read by way of the Massachusetts heart for the ebook.
