Er betrachtet sowohl die Vorläufer der Modernisierungstheorien, wie den Liberalismus, als auch den Ansatz von Parsons und die Theorie der defensiven Modernisierung. Darüber hinaus möchte ich noch auf Beck und “Die feindlose Demokratie” eingehen. In seinem Buch “Risikogesellschaft” und seinen Erklärungen zur reflexiven Modernisierung geht er nicht auf die Betrachtung des Krieges ein. Erst die Auflösung des Ost-West-Konfliktes und das Wiederaufleben der Modernisierungstheorien scheint der Anlaß für eine nähere Untersuchung moderner Gesellschaften gewesen zu sein. Auch wenn seine Ausführungen allgemein bleiben, liefert er Ansätze, die zu überprüfen wären.
